reconstructing a fragmented past

Reconstructing a fragmented past II depicts the artist’s musings on an aspect of Queensland’s industrial heritage – the history of electric tramways in Brisbane – and overrides the past with a contemporary layer. It juxtaposes an image from inside an old tram (photographed at the Brisbane Tramway Museum) over the construction site of the historic Kedron Substation No. 8. This photographic image describes the layers that transform history into the contemporary present and is a tribute to Brisbane’s heritage.

Reconstructing a fragmented past explores the important aspects of Queensland’s industrial development.  It reconstructs historical fragments of the past in a response to a regenerated sight of the transformed historical into contemporary.

Vesna Klačar-Nedimović has been selected as one of the 10 finalists in the 2013 Print Council of Australia Print Commission with her artwork ‘reconstructing a fragmented past’.
