Walkabout: Australian White Ibis

The artwork “Walkabout: Australian White Ibis” is from the ‘Walkabout’ series. Klačar-Nedimović depicts the native birds superimposed on a historical map of Brisbane city streets dating from 1863. This digital print records the artist’s presence as she explores her immediate surroundings.

The artwork is comprised of a selected photograph from the artist’s  photographic research files of Ibis birds (2016) and a digital file from John Oxley Library, State Library of Queensland, of a historical Brisbane street map (1863). These are interwoven to depict and create a historical and ecological narrative.

The ibis is known as mardungurra among the Yindjibarndi people of the central and western Pilbara.
